The entertainment industry is big business. It is one of the most influential entities of the world which has a most pervasive spirit, next to politics and religion. It actually teaches societies how they should think, feel, say, and do what they do. The entertainment field is what primarily keeps economies going. The money that is exchanged because of the entertaining media is staggering to the inquiring mind. Placing stock in a product that is affiliated to entertainment seems to be a good investment. There are many and possibly all aspects of life that are portrayed by the media. The entertainment media caters to people of all interests wherever they like sports, drama, music, trivia or games. Now the Internet allows one to be able to enjoy them twenty-four hour a day every day of the year. No other medium allows for such immediate access to what can be enjoyed through entertainment. Television, even with satellite, does not match the capacity of the Internet. The entertainment industry is very big business because it provides fun, amusement, and excitement to the lives of all people who are willing to pay for it. Yes, the entertainment industry is useful to all of humanity. Has mankind reached his very pinnacle of technological communication? Only the future will tell. The Internet still has more potential for growth in areas that man has yet to discover or develop, and entertainment no doubt will be a large part of such advancements.
The industry of entertainment has big and important connections around the world. Some of those connections are reputable and others are rather shady. Political, crime, news, religious, and sports entities and leaders all are in some way involved in the entertainment industry whether directly or indirectly, whether overtly or covertly. Thus, the entertainment that is provided is sometimes influenced by good and sometimes by the not so good. As a matter of fact, those that are employed by the entertainment industry are people from different backgrounds. They all have different experiences in life that have made them the type of people that they have come to be. Whether they are writers, reporters, researchers, editors, producers, actors, sportsman, agents, or cameramen they all have differences and bring their differences to their field of work. Often times, if not all the time, this has a tremendous impact on what the entertainment industry presents to the public for captivating the audience. So there is the influence of people that work in the entertainment industry and the influence of them and those with whom they do business. This fact tells us that not all entertainment is good entertainment. All people do not judge or perceive things the same, thus what this industry presents to us is not all in good taste. But what is good taste? We will get to this in a moment.
Just think, the entertainment industry is also largely responsible to human society for teaching it what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. This is because it is a scientifically proven fact that all people, whether young or old, whether intelligent or less intelligent, whether strong-willed or not, are influenced by what they see and hear. The entertainment industry has an extremely powerful influence over us all. You may say that every person has the right to choose what or what not to watch, and this would be true. But again not everyone makes good personal choices in life. The entertainment media is in such a paramount position that it has an obligation to its fellow man to provide amusement and interests that will have a positive and wholesome influence upon mankind. Though the influence it has on people may not affect each individual the same way or to the same degree the fact that it does have an impact on the minds and hearts of its patrons should cause the industry to take more responsible efforts for the good of society. It should be for humanity as a whole and not for the individual because it does not just broadcast to the individual but to the entire world. The fact that it “broadcasts” means that it has a great scope of influence. This industry should make adjustments in how it does business, if it is not already too late. We know that it is in business to make money like any other industry but, the supply and demand concept that caters to the masses is not always what is best for everyone. Many people do not want what is good for their psyche or heart they want things that are negative and things that thrill the most base of desires.
People have an innate desire to look up to persons or things that they perceive is higher or beyond themselves. That is why some people become fans or even fanatical about things having to do with the entertainment industry. There is a fascination with people who have fame and fortune. Movie stars, sports stars, and music stars and their public positions are envied. Even if a person may not be a fan of any kind he or she is still affected by what is in the media. For instance, five people might watch a scene or movie of gratuitous violence or any kind of violence whether it seems justified or not. The affect upon the five people will be in one or more ways, and sometimes in all of the proceeding ways; mentally, emotionally, verbally, and/or physically. A person can become emotionally insensitive or overly sensitive (difficulty controlling easily aroused negative emotions). Another person may develop thoughts that more easily lean toward violence. Still another may become more prone to exhibiting verbal abuse. Finally, one might more easily express themselves in physical abuse. Some may be influenced to respond in all such ways. Perhaps, if the entertainment industry made adjustments and displayed much more positive content than negative things, than the world would be a much better place for it.
Even the news media can help by only revealing to the public what it needs to know and forego the graphic details. But who should determine what is or is not appropriate and what should be determined what is or is not appropriate? That is the question of a lifetime. In the meantime you can choose for yourself what part of, and to what degree, the entertainment industry will influence you and your family.
